Brand Name: Prejac, Priligy, Depogy
Prejac (dapoxetine) is a prescription only drug used to treat men who suffer from premature ejaculation (PE). It works by supressing the hormones responsible for ejaculation. It is the first licenced treatment for premature ejaculation and contains the active ingredient 'dapoxetine', which belongs to a group of medicines called 'selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors' (SSRIs). SSRIs are usually found in antidepressants, but one of their side effects is delaying ejaculation. SSRIs work by helping to interfere with the nerve pathways that serotonin uses to reach the brain. This in turn delays ejaculation and helps treat PE.
Generic Name: Dapoxetine
Dapoxetine (i.e. Prejac), is specifically designed for treating premature ejaculation, is a short acting SSRI. It works much faster than other SSRIs, temporarily boosting your serotonin levels, and can therefore be used ‘on demand’. Men who are prescribed Depogy (dapoxetine) will be advised to take it one to three hours before having sex, but not more than once a day. The effects of Prejac (dapoxetine) should wear off approximately two hours after sex. While Prejac (dapoxetine) isn’t a cure for premature ejaculation, it increases the time it takes to ejaculation and can improve control over ejaculation. Prejac (dapoxetine) is effective in around eight out ten men. Men who take Prejac (dapoxetine) can last for up to three times longer than usual, helping reduce the frustrations and problems caused by the speed of ejaculation.
Prejac is a tablet specifically designed to treat PE. It should be taken one to three hours before sex and helps most men to experience a longer ejaculation time.
